Girl's rooms / Maedelszimmer

Welcome to Lily's room. This is how it looks in December 2013. It's the smallest bedroom in the house, but plenty big for our little one! We want to paint soon and add some wall stickers. I would like to add some pink stripes to the drawer chest, but I may have to wait until Spring, as this is more of an outside project.

Willkommen in Lily's Zimmer. So sieht es aus im Dezember 2013. Es ist das kleinste Schlafzimmer im Haus, aber es ist gross genug fuer unsere Kleine. Wir wollen bald streichen und einige Wandsticker anbringen. Ich wuerde gerne pinkfarbene Streifen auf die Schubladen malen, aber das muss wohl bis zum Fruehling warten, da dies mehr ein Projekt fuer Draussen ist.

Welcome to Karina's room! She wanted a pink room (of course!), but for now we could satisfy her with pink curtains that make her room look pink whenever the sun shines in. The door leads to a walk-in closet that is not only for her clothes, but also used for storage. She's got a tv, but hardly ever watches a movie in there. It's not connected to cable, so no worries! ;)

Willkommen in Karina's Zimmer! Sie wollte ein pinkfarbenes Zimmer (natuerlich!), aber wir konnten sie bisher mit pinkfarbenen Vorhaengen besaenftigen die ihr Zimmer pink erscheinen laesst, wann immer die Sonne scheint. Die Tuere ist ein begehbarer Kleiderschrank, nicht nur fuer ihre Kleider aber auch zum aufbewahren anderer Gegenstaende. She hat einen Fernseher, aber schaut kaum einen Film an. Es gibt kein Kabelfernsehen, also keine Angst! ;)

Dieses Foto zeigt die gegenueberliegende Seite, ihr Bett und Spielzeugaufbewahrung, ihren Tisch mit Feen. She sitzt halb nackig vor ihrem Bett...ich konnte sie nicht aus dem Zimmer locken...hahaha!

And the last picture shows more toy storage, her play kitchen and once again the table/chairs. Of course the walls need to be painted and some wall decor will be added in a little bit. Both girls play in this room usually, but lately Karina claims it all by herself more and more often wants to play without Lily.

Das letzte Foto zeigt mehr Spielzeugaufbewahrung, ihre Kueche und nochmal den Tisch/die Stuehle. Natuerlich muessen die Waende bald noch gestrichen und ein paar Wandsticker ergaenzt werden. Beide Maedchen spielen normalerweise in diesem Zimmer, aber neuerdings beansprucht Karina das Zimmer ganz fuer sich alleine und will mehr und mehr ohne Lily spielen.

Our side yard. The grass is covered, so is the road. It still has to snow much more to cover the trees too! Tonight, it's supposed to be 4F, so whenever it stops snowing, it'll freeze!! Brrr!

Das Gras in unserem Garten ist schon bedeckt und auch die Strasse. Aber es muss noch viel mehr schneien, damit auch die Baeume bedeckt sind! Heute Nacht soll es -16C haben, also wird alles zu Eis, wenn es aufhoert zu schneien!! Brrr!

Eine andere Perspektive, diesmal von Karina's Zimmer zu den Nachbarn. 'Google Auto Awesome' hat Schneefall meinem Bild ergaenzt...haha, sieht ziemlich gut aus muss ich sagen :) Fast so huebsch wie in Wirklichkeit.

Mama kannst Du bitte rausgehen? / Mom can you please leave the room?

...sagt Karina zu mir immer wieder. Und zwar dann, wenn Sie etwas 'verbotenes' oder 'ungezogenes' machen will und ich es nicht sehen soll. LOL z.B. leckt sie die Marmelade vom Brot und verkuendet dann, sie hat keinen Hunger mehr oder sie benutzt ihren Finger um Nutella vom Brot zu kratzen. Ich sage dann zwar immer, dass ich nicht rausgehe, und ich weiss, dass sie was vor hat, aber richtig verstehen kann sie das wohl noch nicht. Lustig ist es fuer mich trotzdem!
Wer Karina als ruhiges Kind kennengelernt hat, wuerde sich wundern was passiert ist! Auf dem Spielplatz findet sie immer mindestens ein Kind zum Spielen und Reden, zu Hause singt und tanzt sie umher, sie spielt mit allem moeglichen (z.B. Zahnpasta und -buersten) Mama und Kind oder Freunde die miteinander einen Schatz suchen. Angeregt durch Disney shows spielt sie mit 'Pixie dust' (Pixie staub) und kann Eis mit ihren Haenden hervorzaubern (wie im Film 'Frozen'). Sie hat letztens verkuendet, dass sie Unicorns (Einhoerner), Rainbows (Regenbogen) und die Farbe pink mag. Ausserdem will sie ein 'doll house' zum Geburtstag und LaLaLoopsy dolls und ponys. Ein Meerjungfraeuen Kostuem soll ich ihr naehen und sie moechte Schlittschuhlaufen lernen. Na dann...

...says Karina a lot lately. Everytime, when she tries to do something 'wrong' or 'forbidden' and doesn't want me to see. LOL For example, she licks the jam of the bread and says right after that she is not hungry anymore or she uses her figner to scrape the Nutella of the bread. I always say, that I won't leave and that I know she tries to do something naughty, but she doesn't quite seem to get it yet. Still funny to me!
Everybody who got to know Karina as a quiet child, would be surprised what happened! At the playground she always finds at least one kid to play with and talk to. At home she sings and dances around, plays with whatever is handy (e.g. toothpaste and-brush) Mom and kid or friends that try to find a treasure together. Inspired by Disney shows on tv she plays with 'pixie dust' and can produce ice with her hands (from 'Frozen'). Latley she says, I like unicorns, rainbows and pink. And she wants a doll house for her birthday and LaLaLoopsy dolls and -ponies. I should make her a mermaid costume and she wants to learn how to ice skate. Well then...


Lily hat sich mittlerweile ein paar Eigenarten zugelegt. Sie laeuft gerne barfuss herum, aber wenn sie Schuhe sieht, egal von wem, dann zieht sie mindestens einen an und laeuft damit herum. Sehr oft, hat sie nur einen Schuh am Fuss und den auch noch am Falschen...Ueber Weihnachten hat sie mal einen von Karina's Roecken angezogen (ueber ihren Schlafanzug) und hat ein Riesentheater gemacht, als ich den ausziehen wollte als es Zeit war zum schlafen gehen...hat sie eben angelassen. Obwohl sie ein kleiner 'Rowdy' ist und gerne ohne zu bremsen und mit voller Geschwindigkeit in die Couch reinrennt (oder in mich), liebt sie es doch Kleider und Roecke anzuziehen. Das sind 'Maedchensachen' die im krassen Gegensatz zu ihrem Verhalten stehen. Vielleicht weil Karina die so gerne mag? Ich frage mich, ob sich das veraendert, wenn Lily aelter wird. Seit ca. November/Dezember spricht sie ein bisschen mehr...sie sagt
'mil' = Milch/milk
'daenk ju' = thank you
'biba' = bitte
'momy'oder 'mama' = Mommy, Mama
'dady' = Daddy
'hi' = Hi
'hajo' = hallo
ausserdem noch ein paar (fuer mich) unverstaendliche Worte, die sicherlich eine Bedeutung fuer sie haben. Leider rate ich immer mal wieder welche Sprache sie gerade spricht...definitiv mehr Englisch als Karina in dem Alter gesprochen hat!
Wann immer Musik kommt (im Fernsehen, Radio oder auch im Einkaufsladen) sieht es so aus, als ob Lily nicht anders koennt und tanzen muss. Zuhause dreht sie sich und wackelt mit dem Kopf, klatscht und manchmal kommt auch die Hueft zum Einsatz. Meist macht Karina auch mit und dreht sich. Allerdings will Karina gerne Haendchen halten und zusammen tanzen und Lily will das meistens nicht.


Lily added some quirkyness to her character. She loves to walk around barefoot, but when she sees shoes, not matter whose, she has to wear at least one of them and walks around. Often, she only puts one shoe on and on the wrong foot too...around Christmas she was wearing one of Karina's skirts (on top of her pjs) and threw a huge fit, when I tried to take it off for bedtime...going to bed with it then. Although she is a little rowdy and runs full speed, without slowing down into the couch (or me), she loves to wear dresses and skirts. It just seems so girly and in total contradiction to her character. Maybe because Karina loves to wear them? I wonder, if that'll change when Lily gets older. Since Nov/Dec she talks a little more...she says (see above)
in addition a few more (for me) incomprehensible words, that sure have a meaning to her. Unfortunately I see myself wondering every once in a while, which language she speaks right now...definitely more English than Karina spoke at that age!
Whenever there is music (tv, rado or in a store) it looks like Lily can't help but dance. At home she turns and shakes her head, claps her hands and sometimes even shakes her hips. Often Karina joins her and spins around. But while Karina wants to hold hands dancing together, Lily usually doesn't want to.

News from Columbia / Neues aus Columbia

We are in our new house since Nov 8th! Same day we got our furniture delivered and had hundreds of boxes everywhere in the house. It took quite a long time to unload everything from the moving truck...all day actually! We were exhausted just watching the movers do their job. I couldn't bear the question "Where does this go?" anymore I must say. The girls found their toys and played like crazy. They were super hyper of course. Since then, we tried to unpack and make it our home. We want to paint and have to hang up pictures, but we don't have any boxes anymore, everything is unpacked! I'm glad, I didn't want to walk into a room in a few months still having to unpack boxes.

Our girls play together. Lily has no fear, just lets herself fall on you, sits on your face when you lie in bed. Sometimes she touches the laptop on purpose, looks in your direction, laughs and runs away. Lily prefers to play in Karina's room. It's bigger and there are more toys in there. Plus, I think she enjoys the company. She never goes anywhere without her stuffed dog, it has to be with her when she goes to bed, she hugs and kisses it.

Karina is a little wild lately, doesn't listen very well and is a little rude or naughty. She isn't as shy anymore, much louder and fights with Lily. A few times, she sent Lily out of her room and closed the door. To make sure Lily won't come back in, she put a chair in front of the door. Better safe than sorry...doesn't matter that Lily can't even reach the door handle! hahaha!

Seit dem 08.11. sind wir in unserem neuen Haus! Am selben Tag haben wir unsere Möbel geliefert bekommen, wir hatten hunderte Kartons überall verteilt. Es hat ziemlich lange gedauert alles vom Moebelwagen herunter zu laden...den ganzen Tag! Wir waren total erschoepft nur vom zuschauen. Und ganz ehrlich, die Frage "Wohin soll das hin?" konnte ich auch nicht mehr hoeren. Die Mädels haben ihre Spielzeuge wiederentdeckt und haben ganz viel gespielt. Natuerlich waren sie super ueberdreht weil so viel los war. Seither haben wir versucht auszupacken und dass Haus unseres zu machen. Wir wollen noch streichen und müssen Bilder aufhängen, aber wir haben keine Kartons mehr, alles schon ausgepackt!

Ich bin froh, das alles ausgepackt ist, ich wollte nicht in ein Zimmer gehen in ein paar Monaten und immernoch Kartons auspacken.

Unsere Mädels spielen mehr zusammen. Lily hat keine Furcht, läßt sich einfach auf dich fallen, setzt sich gerne auf dein Gesicht wenn du im Bett liegst. Manchmal fasst sie mit Absicht den Laptop an, schaut in meine Richtung, lacht und rennt weg. Lily spielt lieber in Karina's Zimmer. Sie geht nicht ohne ihren Stoffhund ins Bett, umarmt und küsst ihn.

Karina ist zur Zeit ein wenig aufgedreht, hört nicht so recht, ein wenig aufmüpfig. Sie ist nicht mehr so scheu, viel lauter und streitet mit Lily. Ein paar Mal hat sie Lily aus ihrem Zimmer geschickt und die Tür mit einem Stuhl versperrt. Lieber sicher sein, obwohl Lily die Tür sowieso nicht aufmachen kann, hahaha.

Goofing around.../ Albernheiten...

This is what happens when I am bored and I want to see how my little girl looks like with straightened hair...well, straight-ish. Karina wasn't patient enough to go all the way, plus she kept complaining that it hurts when I pull her hair. Looks cute, but was way more difficult to do then I thought! Her hair is too curly, from the point it comes out of her head it starts waving and curling already and I didn't want to use the straightener too close to her head.

Das passiert, wenn mir langweilig ist und ich sehen will, wie meine Kleine mit glatten Haaren aussieht...naja, 'glatter'. Karina war nicht geduldig genug und ausserdem hat sie sich dauernd beschwert, dass es weh tut wenn ich ihre Haare ziehe. Sieht suess aus, aber war viel mehr Arbeit als ich dachte! Ihre Haare sind zu lockig, ab dem Moment wenn es aus ihrem Kopf kommt faengt es schon an sich zu wellen oder locken und ich wollte das Glaetteisen nicht zu nah an ihrem Kopf verwenden.



Geschwisterliebe! Suess! und von ganz alleine haben unsere Maedels es sich hier sich kurz gemuetlich gemacht.

Lily ist zur Zeit sehr vom Schnulli und ihrem Stoffhund angetan. Am liebsten wuerde sie den Hund ueberall mitnehmen. Zum Glueck koennen wir das manchmal noch umgehen und ihn im Auto lassen. Wenn sie ihn denn doch mitnimmt und alleine laeuft, dann schleift sie das 'arme Tier' neben oder hinter sich her...(erinnert mich an Charlie Browns Freund mit dem Kuscheltuch). Ohne ihren Schnulli und ihren Hund will sie nicht ins Bett abends. Die muessen dabei sein! Hoffen wir, dass sich das wieder gibt, wenn wir mal in unserem Haus sind.

Lately Lily is very attached to her binky and her stuffed doggy. She would just love to take it anywhere she goes. Luckily we can prevent that sometimes and leave it in the car. When she does take it and walks by herself, she drags the 'poor animal' next or behind her...(reminds me of Charlie Brown's friend with the blanket). She doesn't want to go to bed without her doggy or her binky though. That's a must! Let's hope this will subside, once we are living in our house.
